One cashier from Georgetown, Tennessee decided to help out one elderly man who was short on cash. The man’s name is Layne McKeel and he is going through tough times right now. Layne missed out on shopping during discount at the local Fresh n’ Low Supermarket store.
The elderly man hasn’t been able to get out of his home lately due to the coronavirus outbreak pandemic. He recently picked up his last disability payment from last week and was finally able to get out to go shopping for food and supplies locally.
However, Layne was short on cash and an unexpected source came to his aid. He said the clerk working at the Fresh n’ Low Supermarket store, was nothing but an angel.
When clerk Elizabeth Taylor finished ringing up McKeel’s grocery bill she noticed his final $173 dollar bill. McKeel was short at $33 dollars. Elizabeth decided to make up the difference by helping him. She paid the $33 dollar difference but it didn’t stop there.
The elderly man was about to start putting the items back on the shelf but Elizabeth insisted to help him out. She stopped him and went ahead by paying for the remainder of the grocery bill. Elizabeth then paid for his entire $173 dollar grocery bill.
“It was all essential stuff so I was just like…you know…and he was like ‘what do I owe you?’ And I was like no, it’s fine, I’ll take care of it, it’s okay,” Elizabeth recalled to WRCB.
When asked about what inspired her to show such kindness towards a stranger, Elizabeth simply shrugged and said: “We’ve seen a lot of older people, and they’re all trying to buy groceries and a lot of places have ran out of stuff, and so the older people are kind of taking the downfall for that. I just try to give back when I can.”
The elderly gentleman said she was an “angel” and “the light of the day”. McKeel was touched by her kindness and will always remember what she did for him.
